Council approves zoning change to allow 4-foot front-yard fences

Council reviewed Proposal 7-27-26 from the Planning Commission recommending a change to the town’s zoning ordinance (7.21) to allow 4‑foot front‑yard fences where prior code referenced a lower measure. Chair read the proposed language and the council discussed common fence panel heights and the building commissioner’s advice. To pass the amendment during the same meeting, the council voted to suspend the rules and then voted to adopt Ordinance 20 26-07-03.
The ordinance text amends zoning ordinance 7.21 so that side and rear yard fences may be up to six feet and front-yard fences may be up to four feet. The council noted the Planning Commission had favorably recommended the change and that the council had considered the amendment’s effect on health, safety and convenience of Atlanta residents before adoption.
