Parowan airport board flags gate, lighting and taxiway safety issues ahead of spring repairs

Parowan’s Airport Board spent part of its Feb. 9 meeting cataloging maintenance and safety issues that staff want addressed before planned spring pavement and sealing work. City staff and the new airport manager, Megan Young, reported Gate 2 fails to close automatically despite service calls, tie-down ropes are deteriorated and not clearly available to transient pilots, and ruts between the ramp and runway risk damaging glider wing tips.
Board member Dave Norwood said taxiway reflectors are crooked and spaced too narrowly for glider use, forcing gliders to use the runway to reach the far end; he also noted PAPI lights were remaining on and should be set to activate with runway lights. Young said she will walk the entire airport to identify problem areas — particularly from the fueling station to the runway end — and coordinate repairs with contractors before the city’s taxiway and apron crack sealing and fog coating planned this spring.
