Resident urges Avon to keep annexed land agricultural as developer eyes 131 acres

At the July 23 public comment period, resident Adrian Penko (1650 South County Road 450 East) told the Avon Town Council that his neighborhood, annexed into the town within the past five or six years, was placed under agricultural zoning and that the town's most recent comprehensive plan reaffirmed that designation.
Penko said he received a mailing that Poulty Homes is under contract to purchase 131 acres adjacent to his properties and asked the council to "continue to honor that commitment to keeping that land agricultural and not allowing production housing to go in there." He said the preservation of agricultural zoning has allowed more families to raise livestock locally and is working as intended.
Penko's remarks prompted a brief exchange later in the meeting to clarify that a nearby Lennar project discussed earlier pertains to park development and is not a residential subdivision. No council action on zoning was taken at the July 23 meeting; Penko requested the council preserve the agricultural intent during any future development review.
