Board sets aside $50,000 seed money for Vauxhall Street multi‑phase project

Board member Bill, who inspected the roadway, discussed project limits from Huntsbrook Road toward the Eversource power lines and asked whether the distance impacts cost. First Selectman said the road is an important emergency evacuation route: "Vauxhall Street is the only way out for thousands of residents here if we ever have a relocation," he said, arguing that placing the project in the pipeline helps the town pursue state and regional grant opportunities.
Board members discussed design goals—widening, improved drainage and potential bike lanes to strengthen grant competitiveness—and how the project will be coordinated with planning and environmental staff. The appropriation passed on a voice vote and will be returned to the RTM for final authorization and for any future construction funding decisions.
