Board approves $25,000 for police department HVAC study and design

The Waterford Board of Finance voted to appropriate $25,000 currently designated on budget line 20511‑57871 to fund an engineering study and design work for the police department HVAC system.
Director of Public Works Gary Schneider told the board the appropriation will fund analysis of chillers, the boiler, valves, blowers, variable air volume boxes and a building management system. "This is just for the HVAC system, which includes the chillers," Schneider said, adding the work will allow engineers to produce a high‑level cost estimate and talk with police leadership about functional needs. Board members asked whether the roof work was included; Schneider said an $85,000 earmark for roof repair is separate from this HVAC appropriation.
Members discussed timeframe and complexity. A board member noted the HVAC work often takes longer than anticipated and the project could extend into the next budget year, possibly spanning up to two years. The board voted by voice to forward the appropriation to the Representative Town Meeting for final authorization.
