The board approved contracts for architectural/engineering services with Design Collaborative (fee $546,000) and an initial construction‑manager‑as‑constructor (CMC) fee of $25,000 to Michael Kinder & Sons on an estimated $9,000,000 construction budget for the South Wayne Education Service Center. The project will be funded through the 2026 furniture and facilities improvement bond, the board was told.
Heather Krebs, the district facilities director, explained the procurement process: the district issued requests for design and construction manager services, received multiple proposals, interviewed top teams and scored them based on a matrix. Krebs said the design fee covers the entire design process and construction administration while the CMC fee covers preconstruction services and the CMC fee will be adjusted when the guaranteed maximum price is brought to the board for approval—expected in February followed by construction in spring.
