Katie Grant, CEO of Monterey County Superior Court and Traffic Advisory Committee member, explained the UBPS is not cash bail but rather establishes penalty schedules courts use for traffic infractions. Jamie Schechter described the committee’s process — tracking new legislation that affects schedules, soliciting stakeholder input, and publishing drafts for public comment — and noted compressed timelines to post updated schedules to courts by Jan. 1.
Council members voiced appreciation for staff work and adopted the recommended 2026 UBPS so courts can update systems before the new year.
