Selectboard agrees to stipulate with VTel to bypass Board of Civil Authority in valuation appeal

Town staff told the Selectboard that VTel is appealing the State's valuation of telecommunications property (previously assessed as business personal property but reclassified as real property, with the State now setting value). Because the State sets the value, town staff said the town has little to defend in a formal Board of Abatement hearing.
On that basis the board authorized a stipulation allowing VTel to bypass Board of Civil Authority proceedings and authorized the Selectboard Chair, Eric McGowan, to execute the document. Aileen Tulloch moved the stipulation; Rebecca "Bex" Slattery seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The motion reflects administrative alignment with state valuation changes rather than a substantive contest over valuation methodology by the town.
