Putney's Selectboard on July 8 authorized the Town Manager to solicit proposals for an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system to replace handheld Sensus reads for the town's roughly 120 water accounts. The AMI system would use cellular-connected meters capable of hourly updates and leak detection, and could integrate with the town's NEMRC billing software.
Board members noted that the capital cost of new meters might be passed to customers through a rate change depending on bid results. The motion to solicit an RFP included a requirement for a reasonable schedule; Aileen Tulloch moved to authorize the solicitation and Rebecca "Bex" Slattery seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Officials also mentioned smart hydrants as a potential tool for identifying systemic leaks.
