The Putney Selectboard voted unanimously on July 8 to set the municipal property tax rate for fiscal year 2026–27 at 0.6822. Town Manager Karen Astley presented the rate, noting it represented an increase of just 0.0019 and reflected roughly $100,000 in surplus funds and a significant increase in the grand list.
Astley also reported the homestead education rate will be 1.2793 (a decrease of 0.0608 from last year) and the non-homestead education rate 1.225 (a decrease of 0.0126). The board noted that, on a $100,000 house, homestead taxes are approximately $58.90 lower than last year. Aileen Tulloch moved to adopt the municipal rate as presented; Rebecca "Bex" Slattery seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The board directed staff to send tax bills next week. Selectboard members highlighted that surpluses and the expanded grand list limited the need for a larger municipal increase, while continuing to fund routine services.
