State representative honors Rio Rancho schools and principal for STEM achievements

State Representative Catherine Collin joined the board to present commendations recognizing teacher and district STEM achievements. Collin said the awards celebrate outstanding dedication to science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics education across New Mexico and highlighted district initiatives that include a STEAM teacher in every school and hands-on student projects.
"This honor reflects the district's outstanding commitment to science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics through its district wide STEAM initiative," Collin said while recognizing Rio Rancho Public Schools as STEMI District of the Year. The board and honorees thanked the representative, district staff and teachers; several recipients described plans to expand STEAM work, such as an outdoor-learning greenhouse supported by a pending NMPED outdoor learning grant application. Principal Milan Baca, recognized as New Mexico Principal of the Year, thanked staff and community members for their support.
