Pelican Sound looks to CDD for help on storm-surge resilience after modeling shows large flood risk

Eric Long, PSGRC General Manager, told the River Ridge board the community is developing a multi-year action plan to build resilience to storms and climate change and asked the CDD to designate a Board representative and staff or engineering contact to assist. He said the plan could take 10 years and will require coordination with state, county and village agencies.
Using a hypothetical Hurricane Milton topographic map, Long said a 10–12 foot storm surge could have flooded 45%–55% of the community, and he urged a proactive approach, including consideration of partnerships (e.g., with West Bay) and potential physical protections. The Board reached consensus that Mr. Long and newly appointed Mr. Merrill will assist and authorized Mr. Krebs to support as needed.
