Resident urges River Ridge board to address Lake 8 flooding and foundation damage

A River Ridge resident asked the board to adopt Seaside-style regrading to stop rainwater pooling at Lake 8, saying standing water has reached foundations and caused costly repairs; engineers will include the work in the FY 2025/2026 budget discussion.
Rich Batterberry, a resident and NVR of Oak Run, told the River Ridge Board of Supervisors that rainwater pooling from the monument to halfway down Lake 8 takes a long time to recede and is seeping toward home foundations, causing at least one homeowner to incur significant repair costs. "Residents are asking the Board to consider something similar to their neighborhood," Batterberry said, referring to work completed in Seaside.
District Engineer Charlie Krebs reviewed the scope of the Seaside work and said Lake 8 issues could likely be addressed by completing similar regrading and drainage improvements. Chair Bob Schultz told Batterberry the matter "would be considered during the Fiscal Year 2025/2026 budget process." Staff will include the Lake 8 stormwater management project in future forecast discussions and cost estimates, per earlier agenda items on the financial forecast. The Board did not take immediate action at the Jan. 28 meeting but directed staff to include the matter in the upcoming budget process.
