Town staff outlines Green Communities reporting, automation of utility data to reduce year‑end work

Staff member (S1) reviewed the Green Communities annual report process and said the town has moved much of the monthly energy and fuel usage tracking into the Public Works business manager role. S1 credited volunteers and the Energy & Sustainability Committee for earlier support but said in‑house tracking now reduces the end‑of‑year crunch and improves accuracy.
S1 said the town is exploring automation with National Grid so utility usage can be forwarded into the reporting system, which would cut manual invoice tracking. "There's ways for the National Grid data to be, like, you can kind of forward it over through the system," S1 said. Committee members noted grant eligibility as the primary benefit of Green Communities designation; S2 said the town joined in 2013 and has received grants for heating controls and related projects.
Board members agreed to document the division of labor between staff and volunteers for continuity and directed staff to produce a short writeup for incoming interim managers.
