At the meeting, staff (S1) updated the Select Board on the Middle Street Bridge project timeline. Work originally slated earlier was delayed; S1 said the contractor confirmed on the 20th that guardrail installation and paving will begin Monday the 27th and the contractor expects the bridge to be complete by the end of August, while contractual completion remains set for November.
Board members discussed how to communicate schedule changes to the public. S1 said they plan to post a standalone news update and use social media cautiously because dates can slip due to subcontractor availability and weather. "As you know, I've been just a little leery of putting anything out because...you're given a date and then the slides, and then you look bad," S1 said.
The board also discussed guardrail design details and trade or proprietary names; staff said district engineers are responsive but backlog may slow progress.
