Commissioners grant three variances for Bauer property with conditions limiting use

At a public hearing on May 20, Cherokee County considered an appeal from Steven and Valerie Bauer seeking variances for a detached garage or accessory structure. Zoning Administrator Mr. Trawick explained the original request (2,400 sq ft, 24 ft height, metal exterior) had been revised at the applicant’s proffer to 1,800 sq ft and 15 ft height with a more muted color scheme.
Applicant Stephen Bauer told the board the building would be used only for private storage of personal items and would be largely invisible from the road due to lot slope. Commissioners discussed adding conditions to ensure the structure would be built as shown and that no business operations would occur there. Commissioner Carter moved, and the motion was seconded, to grant the three variances (size, height, and metal construction) with the two conditions; the motion carried unanimously.
