The board approved a variance to locate an open‑air gazebo closer to a side lot line at 2200 East Cherokee Drive so that it aligns visually with an existing pool. Staff (speaker 3) and contractor Charles Wood (speaker 17) said the pool has been on the property since at least 1993 and that the proposed gazebo had been redesigned to reduce encroachment. Wood said he moved and shrank the gazebo shape after receiving a survey that showed proximity to the property line and submitted neighbor letters of support.
Several board members indicated they would not approve a similar request if the pool were new, but accepted the longstanding nonconforming pool and neighbor support as part of their decision; the motion to approve passed 3–1 with Dressler opposed. The contractor said the enclosed portion of the structure would include a small storage room and a restroom.
