Board proclaims May 2025 Treatment Court Month; veterans treatment court highlighted at awards ceremony

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners proclaimed May 2025 as Treatment Court Month and invited judges and treatment court staff to receive the proclamation at the May 6 meeting. Chairman Johnston praised the treatment courts as successful interventions and said he and the board attend graduations and support the programs.
Judge Morris, who presides over the Veterans Treatment Court, thanked the commissioners for support and encouraged community members to attend graduations and to serve as veteran mentors. "We've got some of the best people in the state working for Cherokee County, working for our veterans here to make sure that that doesn't happen and to give our veterans another chance," Judge Morris said, and he invited the public to the next graduation on July 28. The meeting also incorporated the Sheriff's Awards program, in which Sheriff Frank Reynolds and staff recognized multiple unit citations, commendations, meritorious service and lifesaving awards for deputies who intervened in overdoses and other emergencies.
The proclamations and awards were followed by group photographs and brief remarks from award recipients and judges; the board thanked public-safety staff for their service.
