During the county manager's agenda the Board approved multiple infrastructure and procurement items May 6, including a Crown Castle agreement to provide fiber to six county facilities (a one-time construction cost of $95,000 covered by SPLOST and monthly service of $10,200), purchase of network switches for the Justice Center ($98,661.72), and approval of professional services contracts for planning and engineering (Gresham Smith for Bells Ferry LCI at $299,028; Thomas & Hutton preliminary engineering for Bells Ferry multi-use trail at $680,499.05).
Public works also sought and received approval to submit a list of 76 roadways (16.3 miles) for Georgia DOT Local Road Assistance Administration (LRA) funds; staff said the county's share of the LRA allocation is $3,348,465.95 with no local matching requirement. The board approved purchases of certain vehicles and equipment as SPLOST-funded items, including a 2018 bucket truck ($96,500) and a coroner vehicle not-to-exceed $56,000. County Manager (unnamed) reviewed funding sources and procurement processes during the presentation.
Commissioners noted these investments support ongoing pavement life-cycle goals, public safety and in-house maintenance capacity. The motions to approve individual contracts and purchases were seconded and each passed by voice vote as recorded in the meeting.
