Board adopts training-time resolution, AI policy, staff handbook and senior-recognition policy

A motion to adopt the training-time resolution (policy 1329) carried after discussion of how the 2024 legislature allows districts to set training lengths for required topics; the board clarified that some trainings (for example suicide-prevention) remain mandatory at 60+ minutes. The board approved policy 40-65 on staff use of AI tools and discussed a plan to review that policy semiannually and on an as-needed basis as technology evolves.
The board also approved the 2026–27 staff handbook as presented and adopted policy 6007 regarding senior recognition. Roll-call votes for each item were recorded as 'Aye' from the trustees present.
During policy review and discussion, trustees raised questions about anti-bullying training length (a 45-minute online module listed in the policy) and how the district might expand professional-development or parent/student education on bullying and social-media issues. Administration noted existing resources and said building-level administrators will continue to manage enforcement and communication.
The board scheduled further discussion and a technology presentation in November to inform any larger curricular or device-purchase decisions.
