Board hears clarifications on accessible upgrades, occupancy changes and adult‑changing stations

Kimberly told the board that the codes now make a clearer separation between a change of occupancy and alterations: when there is a change of occupancy but no physical alteration, the code clarifies that accessible‑upgrade requirements in chapters addressing alterations do not automatically apply. She also reviewed adult‑changing‑station requirements in the 2024 code: the adult‑changing station is required where new toilet rooms are being added in certain assembly occupancies and in some educational facilities that meet specified fixture thresholds. The board discussed how cumulative fixture counts are assessed for compliance and requested staff to reflect these clarifications in the draft ordinance.
