Lawrence board previews draft IEBC ordinance; next meeting set for July 16

The Lawrence Building Code Advisory Board reviewed key clarifications in the 2021 and 2024 editions of the International Existing Building Code (IEBC) and agreed to resume work on a draft local ordinance at its next meeting on July 16.
Kimberly, the city plans examiner, told the board she would circulate an ordinance draft for the existing building code after incorporating carry‑over local amendments and any input from fire and planning staff. "This will be the same format, maybe one less meeting," Kimberly said when outlining the review approach for the two editions. Staff said some flood‑hazard changes will be reviewed by Amy Miller (flood development) and that fire‑related amendments remain pending, so a final vote was deferred until those comments arrive.
Board members discussed scheduling and attendance: staff proposed cancelling the July 2 meeting and keeping the regular cadence with a July 16 session so more members can attend. The board agreed, and staff said they will circulate the draft ordinance in advance, with the caveat that the group must not discuss it by email to avoid violating the Kansas Open Meetings Act. The meeting ended with a motion to adjourn that passed by voice vote.
