Two new commissioners sworn in; mayor names committee assignments

Valerie Meiners and Dustin Schumacher took the Oath of Office on July 6, 2026, administered by City Administrator Robin Lucero as the Lead City Commission convened at 5:30 p.m. Mayor Dustin Heupel presided.
Mayor Heupel announced mayoral appointments for the coming term: Roger Thomas as Acting Mayor/President of the Board of Commissioners and Commissioner of Finance & Revenue; Dory Hanson as Commissioner of Streets & Utilities; Valerie Meiners as Commissioner of Public Safety; and Dustin Schumacher as Commissioner of Buildings & Public Grounds. City Administrator Robin Lucero and department heads were also listed in the appointments, including Public Works Administrator Jason Bauernfeind and Public Safety Administrator/Police Chief Robert Williams.
The commission carried an ordinance first reading to establish next year’s budget schedule, moving the budget process later in the fiscal year to allow a fuller financial recap before adoption.
