Judicial Council welcomes new members, approves 38‑item consent agenda

Chief Justice Guerrero opened the Judicial Council meeting on Sept. 20, 2024, and invited new and reappointed council members to take ceremonial oaths. She highlighted the council’s mission of access, fairness, diversity and inclusion and introduced eight new members and five reappointments.
Mr. Yamasaki moved approval of the meeting’s consent agenda, Justice Karen Fujisaki seconded, and the council approved the package by voice vote after members said “aye.” “The fact that an item is on the consent agenda is not a reflection on its significance,” Chief Justice Guerrero said before the vote, noting members may request items be moved to the discussion calendar.
The swearing-in and the consent vote bookended a meeting that included public comment and multiple presentations. The council’s next regular meeting was announced for Nov. 14–15, 2024.
