New commissioners sworn in as Hawaiian Homes Commission begins July session

“Number one is I’m gonna do a lot of listening,” said new Commissioner Gabe Ame as he introduced himself and described two decades of experience in real‑estate finance and nonprofit work aimed at helping families become homeowners. Kanoa Alapai introduced himself as a land manager from Kona with 20 years of land‑management experience and said he would begin his service by listening to beneficiaries and staff.
The brief introductory session preceded routine business including adoption of the day’s agenda and a reading of a resolution honoring outgoing Commissioner Pauline Namuo. Chair Watson said the new commissioners will need legislative confirmation in the next session and thanked staff and members for their attendance. The commission then moved into public testimony and the remainder of its multi‑day agenda.
