Fire department reports equipment sale, volunteer hires and calls for follow-up on pallet-yard expansion
Summary
Staff reported surplus-equipment sales produced funds used to pay down a $306,000 lien and a $46,000 payment; the department added volunteers and replaced a unit. Council asked that a separate pallet-yard expansion matter be added to a future agenda for fuller review.

City staff provided a brief update on fire-department operations and recent equipment transactions. Staff reported the department sold surplus units and used sale proceeds to pay $306,000 toward an outstanding lien and a $46,000 payment, and it also acquired replacement turnout gear and a replacement vehicle. The department emphasized volunteer recruitment and new credentialing checks (DMV employer-pool enrollment) to ensure driver eligibility.
John (staff) summarized the transactions and said the department did not lose front-line capacity despite the surplus sales: “We got some cash, and the engine that paid off the $306,000 lien,” John said. Staff also requested that expansion plans for a nearby pallet yard be placed on a future agenda so the council could consider fire-safety and permitting issues in a public session. Council agreed to add that item to a future agenda.
