Isleton finance staff warns of continuing shortfalls as council readies budget review

Jessica (finance) told the council the city had negotiated a 10-month forbearance on certain debts and noted a recent payment of $306,000 that reduced outstanding liens after sale of surplus equipment. “We have to make it through the next two years to get there,” Jessica said, framing the work as a multi-step process of whittling down expenses and improving revenue tracking. Council asked for specific recent-payments lists and additional documentation staff could use to demonstrate progress to regional reviewers.
Staff said they will continue to refine income estimates (property taxes, TOT, other sources), monitor sewer and other enterprise funds separately, and return with a draft budget that shows the concrete steps taken to reduce the deficit.
