Isleton council to revisit animal ordinance amid enforcement concerns

Council members told staff they want a clearer, enforceable municipal ordinance on open livestock after repeated complaints. "I think it's probably due time that we put on the agenda the livestock ordinance," a council member said, citing complaints about chickens and roosters and saying enforcement is "not going anywhere."
Members noted a municipal code currently exists but said it had not been enforced consistently. One council member suggested inviting the code-enforcement officer to the council so enforcement procedures and zoning clarifications can be discussed publicly. "If we do have this on the agenda, it would make sense to have the code code enforcement officer here," a council member said.
Council directed staff to gather the existing ordinance, review examples adopted by nearby jurisdictions and return with a recommendation and clearer enforcement procedures so the council can decide whether to revise the ordinance or enforce existing rules.
