Leola sets April 8 election; council names election board and pay rates

The City of Leola council voted March 3 to set the municipal election for April 8, 2025, to fill the mayor’s seat for the remainder of a two‑year term and the Ward 3 council seat. Council President Michael Yost opened the meeting and the council confirmed candidates for the ballot: mayoral candidates Brandon Swate and Brett Schaible; Ward 3 candidates Trisha Erdmann and Brandon Lehmann. Jackie Leibel and McKlay Pettigrew were noted as running unopposed in Wards One and Two respectively.
The council appointed the election board — Deb Weiszhaar, Becky Wolff and Diane Schumacker, plus an alternate — and set compensation at $30 for election training and $20 per hour on election day (plus meals/snacks). Alan Wimer moved to set the board and wages; Richard Reis seconded and the motion carried. The council also scheduled the Local Board of Equalization meeting for March 17 (written appeals due March 13) and moved the regular April council meeting from April 7 to April 10 to avoid an extra canvass meeting following the election.
