The Vergennes City Council voted 7-0 to receive the Planning Commission’s proposed amendment to Section 1612.3 of the Zoning and Subdivision Regulations and to schedule a public hearing for Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. Time Certain. The proposed change would prohibit ground-floor residential units in buildings within 150 feet of the edge of the public right of way along Main Street/Route 22A.
During the receipt discussion, Tim Cook urged the council not to accept the amendment for council review and instead asked the Planning Commission to add language addressing a density bonus before the council advanced it. No Planning Commission members were present to respond; the council moved forward to set the hearing date to allow public comment at the May 14 meeting.
The public hearing will be the next formal opportunity for residents and stakeholders to weigh in on the proposed regulation change.
