Flash survey: open space and traffic top local priorities; housing seen as expensive

Staff member (speaker 2) presented results from a short, 48‑hour flash survey run through a contracted panel and said the survey pulled roughly 50–60 responses from about a 619‑person panel. She reported "about 73% respondents said they perceive some of the community housing as being very" expensive and that respondents ranked preserving open space and improving housing affordability programs among the top priorities.
The survey also asked respondents to choose up to three perceived benefits and concerns of lower‑cost housing. Top benefits were helping people live and work locally and easing hiring for local businesses; top concerns were traffic/congestion and the risk of housing conversions to short‑term rentals. Staff said the results can be filtered by sub‑areas (east vs west Summit County) and demographic slices and recommended follow‑up surveys targeted at local workforce populations.
Authority members suggested using the survey as a starting point and expanding outreach to include employers and HR departments, school districts and other local stakeholders so that the panel better captures workforce needs rather than only engaged residents.
