City Manager Ron Redmond told the Vergennes City Council that a recalculation of FY24 firefighter wages raised the line item from $14,000 to $27,000, creating an increased funding need for the Fire Fund.
Rather than amending the General Fund, Redmond said staff planned to rely on the Fire Fund 'fund balance' to cover the increase. He also reported Ferrisburgh recalculated its share of regional fire contracts using the Hawley formula, reducing Ferrisburgh’s percentage from 45% to 40% and thereby increasing Vergennes’ annual contribution. To partially offset the shift, staff reduced building maintenance budgets by $3,977 and said they would re-verify Ferrisburgh's calculation in December.
