BLM to begin restoration this fall, schedule public summit next summer on river plan

BLM staff told the Irwin City Council they will start habitat restoration at the acquired Irwin parcel this fall and hold a public summit next summer to gather input on possible land-use plan amendments for river access.
At the Irwin City Council meeting on Sept. 3, Bureau of Land Management staff said restoration work at the parcel acquired near the Irwin Slide will begin this fall and that the agency plans a public summit next summer to gather comments for any proposed land-use plan amendments.
Acting Field Manager Bret Herres said the fall restoration will focus on habitat restoration and vegetation planting tied to the easement from Lynn Dixon. Herres told the meeting, “You will see restoration work begin in this fall. Next summer BLM will hold a Summit to get public comments, concerns, desires to amend the existing Plan.” Monica Zimmerman noted the BLM still manages public access per the 2008 plan and the 2018 usage review, and said expansion of parking at Palisades Creek remains a possibility while Irwin-specific ramp work would require a plan amendment and review.
