Gabrielle Gilbert, an outside city resident, told the council that the community should treat childcare as "economic infrastructure" and pursue collaborative solutions. Gilbert said the Klickitat County Child Care Workshop is tentatively planning its fourth meeting in August and that Garfield County and the Department of Commerce are expected to discuss rural childcare efforts and grant opportunities.
Gilbert asked that the city involve county officials, local industries, and businesses in developing childcare solutions and consider committee review and economic development tools to support childcare access. Her remarks were made during the public comment period at the July 1 meeting.
