Residents urge stronger town-forest access, recreation planning and conservation clarity in Weathersfield draft Town Plan

Multiple residents urged the Commission to strengthen recreation and town-forest language in the draft Town Plan. Mr. John Arrison recommended adding goals to secure access to the Town Forest and called for a Safe Routes to School crosswalk between the school and the Mormon Church. Mrs. Arrison described the Weathersfield Conversation Group’s interest in local economic development linked to recreation.
Speakers also cautioned that conservation policies should be balanced with support for farms and the tax base. Mr. Dauphin and others asked the Commission not to prioritize conservation goals in ways that would force residents to abandon farming or reduce economic opportunity. The Commission asked for written suggestions and indicated these topics would receive additional review during the continued hearing on April 20.
