Jerome council approves Sidewalk Repair Grant Program, sets $25,000 startup fund

The Jerome City Council on Jan. 6 adopted an administrative policy establishing a Sidewalk Repair Grant Program intended to help property owners replace failed sidewalks and, in some cases, pay for curb and gutter or infill work. Public Works Director Jon Caton told the council the program was developed by staff with research help from Planning and Zoning Manager Ida Clark.
Under the policy, residential properties are eligible for 75% reimbursement of approved sidewalk repair costs up to $3,000 and commercial properties are eligible for 50% reimbursement up to $3,000. Caton said staff initially set aside $25,000 for the program from the city's replacement fund. Council members discussed program promotion, contractor requirements, sidewalk locations in and outside the public right-of-way, and confirmed that ADA ramp work would be fully funded by the City, not by property owners.
Councilman Bryan Craig moved to approve the administrative policy and set yearly reimbursement amounts; Councilman Dale Ross seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
