Tyngsborough weighs two tracks for a new fire station as committee proposes cuts and studies 100 Potash Hill Road

Town Manager Colin Loisel told the Select Board that the Fire Station Building Committee collected member feedback and categorized proposed reductions to the project into three groups: items with minimal operational impact, items that could be worked around if necessary, and items the chiefs said would be detrimental to operations if removed. H2M has agreed to review the committee's proposed reductions at no additional cost.

Loisel also reported the town is exploring a separate option: potential acquisition and conversion of 100 Potash Hill Road, a vacant 34,000‑square‑foot office building. He said public safety officials and inspectors toured the property and that the building appears structurally promising. "We believe that we can convert it into a public safety building for less than or very close to what we were looking at for a single stand‑alone fire station," Loisel said, adding the town will complete a high‑level feasibility study with an architect.

The Select Board scheduled a joint meeting on August 10 where the Fire Station Building Committee will present proposed scope reductions, cost impacts and findings from listening sessions and surveys. Loisel cautioned that if the board designates two members to work on negotiations, much of the negotiation work may not be public until terms are clearer.
