The Visit Broken Arrow tourism board voted to approve a rebate request for the Oklahoma Wesleyan 918 wrestling open, approving reimbursement "not to exceed $6,250," to be handled with the board’s standard room‑night verification process. The motion was moved and seconded and carried on a recorded voice vote.
Thomas Carr, introduced by staff as head coach of Oklahoma Wesleyan, told the board the tournament has grown from about 100 wrestlers in its first year to roughly 200 last year and that organizers expect further growth. Carr said the team is exploring using Broken Arrow Public Schools’ new event center, which could hold seven or eight mats with some layout adjustments. "Our 1st year we did 100 wrestlers in it. Last year we doubled that to 200," Carr said.
Board members asked how room nights and hotel tracking would be verified and stressed that out‑of‑city room nights should be documented to qualify for the rebate. The board recorded an affirmative vote and wished the tournament organizers luck.
