Moorhead council approves extension of supplemental power agreement with Missouri River Energy Services

Travis Schmidt, a representative of Moorhead Public Service, presented the council with a proposed extension of the S1 supplemental power agreement with Missouri River Energy Services (MRES), saying, "This has been a long standing multi decade agreement we've had with MRS." He told the council the amendment primarily updates environmental attributes such as renewable energy certificates and, if approved, would extend the contract until 2067 as the sixth amendment to the agreement.
Schmidt explained that the city's firm electric service comes first from the Western Area Power Administration and that MRES supplies supplemental power when needed. He said the MPS commission and city attorneys had reviewed the amendment; council members asked how the public could review the redlined changes. Schmidt said residents may request the tracked edits from MPS staff by email and staff would provide underlying and strike/track changes for public review.
Councilor Heather Niesemeyer moved to approve the resolution to extend the S1 agreement with MRES; Councilor Emily Moore seconded. The council completed a roll call vote and the mayor declared the motion carried.
