Chair Bruce Scogg described RS32843 as a bill to enhance security on the Capitol Mall by empowering the Department of Administration and Idaho State Police to ban disruptive or noncompliant individuals from the Capitol and Supreme Court buildings for up to a year and to impose time limits on symbolic tents and other structures. Scogg said the change responds to prior court issues over camping and protest encampments on the Mall.
"The proposed legislation enhances that security to empower the Director of Department of Administration and the Idaho State Police and their representatives to ban disruptive or non compliant individuals from entering the Capitol And Supreme Court buildings for up to a year," Scogg said. Heather Scott moved to introduce RS32843 for printing; the motion carried by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The chair indicated the Department of Administration could provide staff testimony at a subsequent hearing.
