Committee advances bill to require installation proof, dealer notifications for ignition interlocks

Senator Dan Foreman (District 6) introduced RS33405, which would amend Idaho Code 18-8008 to require ignition interlock companies to report the installation date to the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) and notify prosecuting authorities when a device prevents a vehicle from starting. "This bill will require ignition interlock companies to provide proof of installation of ignition interlock systems to the Idaho transportation department," Foreman said, adding that the installation date would trigger the start of the one‑year mandated ignition‑interlock period for DUI convictions.
Foreman told the committee the change is intended to increase accountability and ensure prosecuting authorities have timely information to monitor compliance with court-ordered restricted driving privileges. A motion to send RS33405 to print was made, seconded and carried by voice vote; RS33405 will be printed for a fuller hearing.
