Council approves water-plant invoices totaling $331,777 and awaits USDA review on sewer bids

Council members approved two invoices related to water-plant maintenance at the Nov. 19 meeting: Invoice #2 from Midwest Engineering Group, LLC for $11,135.30 and Invoice #2 from Starbucks Trucking LLC for $320,641.78. Both motions were moved by Council Member Thomas Capp, passed 5-0, and were described as final payments for construction observation and maintenance improvements.
BG Consultants reported the sewer rehabilitation project was reopened and that bids for the sewer lift station are awaiting review by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Separately, Council Member Jerome Mitzner said he will contact State Representative Rick James to check the status of remaining KDOT CCLIP funds to be repaid to La Cygne.
The council also discussed stormwater and street-improvement master plans and the prospect of a 1% sales-tax question on the November 2026 ballot to fund those projects; town-hall meetings were proposed to share the master plan with residents.
