Residents and commission weigh shared septic, leach‑field option near Brigham Academy

A committee member proposed using the large parcel adjacent to Brigham Academy, the elementary school and the fire department as a potential leach field and then preserving that land as parkland. "There's a very large plot of land there, and that could be a good leach field and then left as a park afterwards," the committee member said. The member asked that their written comments be provided to the consultant for possible incorporation in the draft.
The discussion flagged two practical constraints the draft highlights: (1) building a full wastewater system for the village would be expensive and (2) some private wells have reliability issues that might make targeted connections to a public water source useful. The planner noted the draft will be used to support future grant applications and that including wastewater and water priorities in the plan could help justify funding requests.
No formal action was taken; board members asked staff and the planning consultant to record community comments and return a revised draft that refines the wastewater language and documents the engineering or grant steps required for further study.
