County Manager Michael Silverman told the joint boards that the county is preparing an educational campaign and citizen survey ahead of a possible quarter‑cent sales tax referendum. He said the referendum has been placed on the ballot four prior times and failed each time; the county now wants public input on funding priorities if a referendum is placed on the ballot and passes.
Silverman said the survey will remain open until May 22, 2026, and that about 350 responses had been received at the time of the meeting. He said the Board will consider adding the referendum to the November ballot in June if the Board chooses. The county is presenting several priority options for respondents, including economic development, parks & recreation, fire safety, and the sheriff’s office. Silverman and Economic Development Director Garrett Dinkins said they will speak at multiple board and organizational meetings to explain the proposal and gather feedback.
