USD 506 board to seek medical advice before next decision on Labette County mask mandate

The Labette County USD 506 Board on Feb. 11 voted to add a discussion about the district's mask mandate to a future agenda and directed Superintendent John Wyrick to seek guidance from medical professionals before taking action.
"I will set up several meetings in the next couple of weeks to seek advice from the medical field," Dr. John Wyrick said. The agenda item to discuss rescinding the mask mandate was proposed twice during the meeting: an initial motion by Justin Bebb failed for lack of a second; a later motion by Kevin Cole, seconded by Justin Bebb, carried 5-0 to add the discussion to the agenda and the matter will be revisited at the March board meeting. The board did not vote in Feb. 11 to change the existing district mask mandate.
