Vendor-led recycling program requires 100 sign-ups before launch, clerk says

City Clerk Carrie Kimball told the council that Western Waste/Republic will implement a recycling program in Kimberly once at least 100 residents sign up, and she distributed a flyer and a fund breakdown sheet at the Jan. 27 meeting. "Once they have 100 residents sign up for recycling, they will implement it," Carrie said. The clerk clarified that the vendor would manage billing, setup and customer service: "This is their billing not ours."
Council members asked whether the $10 referenced by the vendor would be added to city bills; Clerk Kimball and Administrator Craig Eckles said no, the charge would be handled directly by the vendor and would not appear on municipal utility bills or city webpages. The vendor approach means sign-up thresholds and customer questions will be handled by Western Waste/Republic rather than by city staff. The council received the information as an informational staff report and did not take formal action at the meeting.
