The Yadkin County Board of Commissioners on April 20 approved rezoning case RZ26-003, allowing a 12.13-acre portion of parcel #142158 at 6205 E Old US 421 Hwy to change from Rural Agricultural (RA) to Highway Business (HB). The Planning Board recommended approval and the board adopted the Statement of Consistency and Reasonableness finding the rezoning consistent with the public interest.
Proponent Josh Johnson, representing a 58-year-old family electrical contracting company that has operated in the county for roughly 46 years, told commissioners the business has outgrown its current site and plans a new office on the parcel. "They want to stay in Yadkin County and continue working and growing here," Johnson said, adding that the firm employs nearly 600 workers and hosts high-school interns.
Planning & Zoning Director Kaelan Everhart noted surrounding uses are primarily residential and agricultural with some existing Highway Business parcels nearby; the parcel is designated Rural Agricultural on the county Future Land Use Map but the Planning Board recommended approval. The board voted 5–0 to approve the rezoning.
