On April 12, 2021, Labette County Unified School District 506 Superintendent John Wyrick told the board he believes the district should remain neutral on the proposed Labette County wind farm and that board meetings should not be used as a public forum for that issue. He said discussion of the wind farm is more appropriate at county-commission meetings and that he will relay relevant county developments to the district.
Wyrick told the seven-member board that maintaining a neutral position at USD 506 meetings would avoid using the school board as a platform for community debate on the wind farm. He encouraged patrons with opinions on the project to attend Labette County Commission meetings to express their views. No formal motion or vote on the wind farm was taken by the board during the meeting.
