The La Cygne City Council voted 5-0 on Jan. 21 to host a town-hall meeting on April 1, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the La Cygne Library great room to discuss a proposed 1% sales tax that would be placed on the November 2026 ballot to fund street and stormwater improvements.
Council members discussed whether to hold town halls before soliciting engineering proposals (RFQs) and agreed that public education was a priority to ensure the community understands the ballot question. "The priority to ensure the community would understand the Sales Tax question, the council agreed to host a Town Hall meeting to educate the community about the question for the ballot," the clerk reported. Council Member Jerome Mitzner made the motion to schedule the April 1 town hall; the motion passed 5-0.
The council also discussed outreach and master-plan work for street and stormwater improvements; staff and consultants will coordinate community engagement ahead of any ballot placement.
