Senator Hill presented the Department of Health budget (HB 1908) and highlighted two primary changes: an increased reappropriation for Jackson Water litigation and $1,000,000 added for targeted public health initiatives. He described the public‑health funding as intended for obesity management, remote patient monitoring, cancer screenings for uninsured residents and work on the obstetrical system of care to address maternal and infant mortality.
A committee member asked whether parts of the Department of Health bill (burn care, local governments, medical cannabis) had changed; Hill said those components remain at LBR. Hill also noted the local rural water and medical cannabis funds are at LBR levels. The motion to move the bill as title sufficient, do pass (strike all) carried by voice vote.
"The added $1,000,000 provided for the intention of public health priorities," Hill said while outlining the bill’s major changes.
